Don't Get Scammed!

Many of you have heard about a recent scam that has been making its way around this community involving a telephone call from someone claiming to be your grandchild who is in trouble and needs assistance. The caller typically claims that he is out of the country and requests that you send money through a wire transfer. Fortunately many seniors have been educated about such scams and know not to send money. However, there are still plenty of others who are being taken advantage of and who are then too embarrassed to report it to police. Join Bedford Police Chief, Robert Bongiorno on Monday May 7 at 1:00 PM at the Bedford Council on Aging for a discussion about what to do if you receive one of these calls as well as some other important community safety tips!

Does Your Car Fit You?

Often as we age, we are told that we need to adjust ourselves to be better drivers. But what if, instead, we could simply adjust our cars? Developed through collaboration among the American Society on Aging, AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association, CarFit is the first program to offer older adults the opportunity to check how their personal vehicles "fit" them. CarFit technicians from Carleton-Willard will be at the COA on Thursday May 10 from 1-4 PM to lead you through a 12-point checklist of your vehicle, recommend adjustments and adaptations, and offer community-specific resources that can make your vehicle fit your driving needs better and enhance your personal safety. This event is co-sponsored by Carleton-Willard AT HOME and is open to the public free of charge! Please call the Bedford Council on Aging at (781) 275- 6825 to register!
