Bedford is located just off Route 95 (Massachusetts state route 128), about 15 miles west of Boston. Typically, travelers arrive by car, however, commuter rail is available in nearby Concord, and a commuter bus is used extensively during rushhour, and a mini-van is available on a limited basis for in-town transportation. On the southern part of town, straddling Lexington and Lincoln, lies Hanscom Field, an Air Force research base with limited military craft activity; however, the state's Massachusetts Port Authority operates an active civil air terminal for small private and industrial craft.
