10.3 Purpose
The School Committee is the policy making body for the school system.
10.4 Responsibilities
The School Committee's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
a. The School Committee shall establish educational policy and educational standards that are consistent with the requirements of the law and statewide goals and standards of the Massachusetts Board of Education. b. The School Committee shall review and vote to approve an annual budget for public education in the Bedford Public Schools and shall hold a public hearing on the budget prior to Annual Town Meeting. c. The School Committee shall have the authority to appoint and terminate the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. d. The School Committee shall have jurisdiction over all public property placed in its charge either by state law or vote of the Town.
