emerleft Concord Road Water Main Cleaning and Lining

........Concord Road Water Main Cleaning and Lining

The Department of Public Works will be addressing rusty water complaints along Concord Road between Davis Road at St. Michael’s Church and Hartwell Road beginning September 12th.  The process scrapes off unsuitable deposits and then applies a cement lining on the inside of the water pipe to prohibit the future growth of rust.   The work will be performed by N. Granese & Sons.

In order to perform this work, the existing water main must be taken out of service.  Temporary service pipe will be laid above ground and individual houses will be connected to the temporary pipe.  Temporary hydrants will be set to maintain emergency fire protection throughout the project.

Bedford Water Division personnel will be overseeing this project.  Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the DPW at (781) 275-7605.  The work should be complete by the end of the October.

UPDATE 10/26/11

Concord Road Water Main Cleaning and Lining

Granese has finished cleaning and cement-lining the 8-inch water main between Hartwell Road and Davis Road.   They will be replacing the last two hydrants and reinstalling the gate valves.  On Friday, October 28th, they will chlorinate the main and let it set over the weekend, so that it can be flushed and sampled early next week.  Once two consecutive clean samples are obtained, the contractor will remove the bypass hoses from houses and reset the meters.

Thank you for your patience during this project.

Water Main Leak Detection Project

The Department of Public Works has scheduled the bi-annual leak detection survey of water mains within the Town’s distribution system.  The water mains vary from 6-inch diameter to 16-inch diameter and have approximately 700 fire hydrants and 4,000 domestic water services.  The work will be performed by Conservation Technologies.

The contractor will use sounding equipment to pinpoint any suspected leaks. The contractor will not be entering private homes to perform this work.

Although the majority of the work will be performed during the day, the contractor will work at night on the heavy traffic roadways.  The Bedford Police will be notified when night work is scheduled.

Once the leak detection survey is complete, the Bedford Water Division will be scheduling any necessary repairs to the Town’s system.  If a leak is found on a private water service, the property owner will be notified by mail of the required repairs.  A list of bonded contractors who can perform the work is available at the DPW office.

Please contact the Department of Public Works at (781) 275-7605 if you have any questions.
