BEDFORD COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING (as of December 9, 2013)

and the *APPENDIX (as of December 12, 2013)

The new Bedford Comprehensive Plan (The Bedford We Want: Shaping Our Future) is available for public viewing here.

This product is the result of two years of intensive effort by the Planning Board, the Ad Hoc Advisory Committee and the Planning Department professional staff, with the involvement of scores of citizens, board and committee members and representatives of other stakeholder organizations. All citizens and stakeholders are urged to read it and let us know your thoughts, ideas and commentary. A Comprehensive Plan is a periodic self-evaluation of where the community has been, where it stands at the present, where it envisions itself going in the future, and what it will take to get there.

There is a separate *Appendix for public viewing here containing much additional data and information. Both the main document and the appendices  will also be printed in limited quantities and hard copies placed in the Bedford Library and possibly in additional locations for public viewing. Comments must be submitted in writing, either by e-mail or on paper. E-mail comments to: Cathy Silvestrone. or mail or drop off written comments to the Planning Department, Town Hall, 10 Mudge Way, Bedford, MA 01730. Please submit them no later than JANUARY 17, 2014. Comments will be compiled into a second Appendix and published and posted.

The Plan is not a study or report that is simply prepared and handed in by a task force or hired consultant and the job is done. Rather, it is the result of a process of structured thinking that allows understanding of all aspects of community growth and redevelopment, fiscal status, physical facilities and town services, quality of life and more. The Plan identifies how these are connected and it offers an extensive slate of action items from which to pick and choose in guiding town policy and investment. The Plan, then, is a process and a beginning of courses of implementation; it is a living, active document that offers guidance to the community for years to come in seeking to achieve its visions.
