The Bedford Police Department will be starting its second mobilization in the 2016 Traffic Safety Grant that it was awarded from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division (EOPSS/HSD) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This mobilization will run from Friday April 8, 2016 until Friday April 29, 2016. We will have extra patrols out looking for distracted drivers.
The tagline of the mobilization is “U DRIVE. U TEXT. U PAY.” and we mean it. If you are texting and driving, we will pull you over and issue you a ticket. Yeah, yeah, we hear it all the time, that we are out here writing tickets for the money. Well, the last time I checked, we don’t get any of that money. If we did, believe me we would be out there writing more tickets. The truth is we are out there writing tickets because we want to make the streets that you travel on safer for everyone.
Look at it this way. If you are driving 55mph and take your eyes off the road for five seconds you will travel the length of a football field in that time. A lot can happen in the length of a football field. All I am saying is save the texting and the Facebook for when you are home or in a waiting room somewhere. There are enough outside distractions around when you are driving; you don’t need to add anymore inside the vehicle.
Please drive safely and remember to always buckle-up.
