The department is responsible for providing fire protection for several large complexes, such as the VA Medical Center, Middlesex Community College, and Carleton Willard Village.

They are trained in Emergency Medical Services, Hazardous Material Operations, Confined Space Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Cold Water Rescue, High Angle Rescue, and much more. The firefighters work and train throughout the year to provide a professional level of fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical care for Bedford 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
