Following its opinion survey, the Bedford Planning Board is moving to the next step in encouraging people to help shape our zoning to comply with the state's requirements for MBTA communities. In the High School lobby before the Special Town Meeting on November 6, there will be four display maps of some potential locations that have been suggested. Each is at least 25 acres, since we need to identify at least one contiguous area of that size. The total requirement is at least 50 acres and the minimum size 5 acres. The showcased areas are titled 'Center of Town', 'Depot/Loomis', 'Middlesex Turnpike' and 'Shawsheen'. They are not the only options. They can be seen as having different advantages and disadvantages. They could be altered or combined or different areas suggested. Comments are invited. The Board is aiming to develop draft zoning amendments to bring for a vote at the 2024 Annual Town Meeting. For background information, see our MBTA Communities webpage.
