The Town of Bedford has new vendor for automated emergency and community outreach messages.

The Town of Bedford has selected a new vendor to provide automated emergency and community messages.  CodeRed replaces the Town’s  previous vendor. The new system has enhanced options including advanced mapping capabilities and the ability to provide messages to specific neighborhoods or streets.

Bedford has been using automated phone messages with great success since 2008. It is clearly a very effective and efficient tool to communicate emergency and advisory information to our residents and businesses, and the Town will continue to use CodeRed in the same fashion.

Any automated phone system is only as good as its database, and especially now with the trend of cellular phones replacing land lines as primary telephone connections, the Town  encourages you to take a minute and register for the CodeRed System.  Cellular phone numbers and e-mail addresses registered with the previous system will not transfer automatically to the new system.

CodeRed has provided the Town with a database of Bedford-based telephone numbers culled from public databases, however the Town  urges our residents and businesses to add their telephone numbers, cellular phone numbers and email addresses to the new CodeRed system, even if they did so with our previous provider. To register, residents and businesses can log onto the Town’s website www.bedfordma.gov and click on the “CodeRed Community Notification Enrollment” icon. This will only take a minute of your time, and will ensure that you receive emergency and non-emergency messages from the Town of Bedford..

A test call will be made town-wide to residents and businesses on Friday, September 23 at 4:00pm. Any resident or business that does not receive this call should log onto www.bedfordma.gov to add your contact information to the CodeRed database. Also, if you want to change or add telephone and cellular phone numbers, and/or list your email address as a form of notification, you can do so through the CodeRed icon on Bedford's homepage.
