Town of Bedford Mails 2026 Annual Trash & Recycling Guide
Enhanced Format, New Program Offerings, and Updated Fee Schedule Included
Bedford, MA – The Department of Public Works is pleased to announce the mailing of the 2026 Annual Trash and Recycling Guide to all Bedford households. This comprehensive resource provides up-to-date information on the town’s curbside trash and drop-off recycling, composting, and reuse/donation programs. It also features helpful FAQs on topics such as scheduling appointment-based services, the recycling triangle, and how to request a trash cart repair.

What’s New in 2026:
- Updated Fee Schedule: The guide outlines revised rates for bulky item collection, mattress recycling, white goods, and overflow bag disposal.
- Variable Recycling Cart Program: In response to resident feedback, DPW is introducing a flexible recycling cart program. Beginning Fall 2025, residents may request to swap their standard 64-gallon recycling cart for a larger 96-gallon cart (annual fees apply). This optional program aims to better meet varying household needs and support increased recycling participation. Service Level Change forms are available now on the Town Website.
Improved Format for Easier Use
The 2026 guide has been redesigned with usability in mind, based on insights gathered during a recent community survey. Residents overwhelmingly indicated a preference for the annual guide over other communication formats. In response, the new guide features:
- Clear organization by collection method (curbside, drop-off, etc.)
- Prominent FAQs addressing common questions in key areas
- A layout designed for quick reference and improved accessibility
DPW remains committed to making waste management easy and accessible for all Bedford residents. We welcome your suggestions and questions. Please contact us directly at trashrecycling@bedfordma.gov or 781-275-7605.
