[ARCHIVED] Curbside Yard Waste Begins Nov 10

Trash and Recycling

🍂 Fall Curbside Yard Waste Collection

Curbside yard waste will be collected during three collection routes this fall — Nov. 10, 17, and Dec. 1. The Town’s contractor will begin each route on the regular trash day and visit each street once by the end of the week.

Residents should place all yard waste curbside in tall paper bags or open barrels without lids by Sunday evening before pickup or no later than 6 a.m. on Monday. The Town’s contractor will begin collection each week on trash day and work to complete the route as soon as possible. Collection timing may vary based on the volume of material set out at the curb.

Acceptable materials include leaf litter, pine needles, grass clippings, weeds, and other leafy material.
Please do not include trash, stones, or any non-compostable items.

♻️ Bedford Recycling Center Drop-Off Option

Residents can also bring yard waste directly to the Bedford Recycling Center, 108 Carlisle Road, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Extended hours until 3 p. m. on Nov 15, 22 and 29. Proof of residency or a resident sticker is required. Stickers are available during business hours at the DPW, 314 The Great Road, with proof of residency. Please bring your vehicle registration when requesting a sticker.

Finished compost created from collected yard waste is available for free near the entrance to the Recycling Center. Bring your own bucket. This material is generated on site from collected yard waste and is not tested for quality or contaminants.

🎃 A Note About Pumpkins

Pumpkins are much better composted than thrown in the trash! Bedford Mothers Out Front and the Energy and Sustainability Committee are hosting the annual Pumpkin Smash Composting Event on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the John Glenn Middle School parking lot.

Bring your unpainted, glitter-free, natural pumpkins to the event, smash them up, and learn about food waste composting!

💧 Stormwater Reminder: Drains Are Just for Rain!

Bedford’s Stormwater Team reminds residents that our storm drains bring untreated water directly to local rivers and streams. Help protect our watershed with these simple actions:

  • Remove leaves and grass clippings from pavement and clear storm drains to prevent flooding.

  • Mulch leaves in place with your lawnmower to return nutrients to your soil.

  • Gather leaves and yard waste into a compost pile to decompose over winter and use as fertilizer next season.

  • Bag leaves for collection or bring them to the Recycling Center.

  • Do not place yard waste in or adjacent to wetlands.
