Across Massachusetts, the number of influenza (flu) cases are very high. Thousands of Massachusetts residents, across all age groups, have become ill. Many residents have experienced serious influenza illness, leading to visits to urgent cares and emergency departments, resulting in hospitalizations and sometimes death. Preliminary data shows that this season's flu vaccine reduces hospitalization by 70-75% in children and 30-40% in older adults, demonstrating the effectiveness of the flu vaccine.
