The Bedford Planning Board will hold public hearings within its remote meeting on September 24, 2024, starting at 7:00pm, to review a number of proposed amendments to the Zoning Bylaws or Map. They are likely to be advanced for a vote at the November Special Town Meeting. The topics are set out in the legal ad. They are mostly considered to be of a minor nature.
Probably of greatest substance is the proposal to increase the allowed height in the Industrial districts that lie to the east of Route 3, in the Middlesex Turnpike corridor. It should be noted that no increase is proposed in the total amount of floorspace allowed, which is governed by floor area ratios. Landowners would have more flexibility in designing their site layouts.
Most of the other changes will clarify existing rules or simplify the bylaws. Passage of these amendments at Town Meeting would help to pave the way for a full reorganization of the Zoning Bylaws with rearranged sections and tables, under the Zoning Bylaw Reorganization Project which is underway.
